Nothing ends with summer
If the calendar says that autumn begins on September 23rd, in Calella the sun will tell you otherwise. With the sea temperature still at 23-24º, we as Calellenses are reluctant to store our swimsuit. The beach, after a splendid August, lures you to keep going there well into October. Summer feels so at ease in our city that it always takes time for it to leave. But what identifies the return to work in Calella is a feverish activity. Young people start school and adults are full of the vitality that carries on after the holidays.
We say goodbye to summer with the International Folk Festival, which brings to the streets and places of our city rhythms and traditional dances from around the world. Temperatures begin to drop and in the evenings and mornings you will start seeing the first long sleeves. It is the favourite time of athletes, when the heat starts to be less intense and the water allows for a bath at the end of the session. Ironman is ideal for those triathlon enthusiasts who wish to test their strength in one of the sports events with global outreach.
With the Fair of Calella and Alt Maresme, you will enjoy craft shows, traditions and customs of the region when a new year of activity starts. The celebration of Oktoberfest, which lasts almost all of October, attracts thousands of visitors who come looking for band music and cold beer, borrowed from the Bavarian culture; we have integrated it into our customs. Winter seems distant and it always arrives when we least expect it.
